The Great Gold Medal was awarded to the Trentino Cabernet Sauvignon by Vivallis s.c.a. (Rovereto –Trento – Italy).
62 is the total amount of medals awarded: 1 Great Gold Medal, 58 Gold Medals and 3 Silver Medals. Here is a brief résumé of the results obtained by the elaboration of the judgments given by the 74 international judges (technicians, producers and journalists) that on Friday 19th October 2012, divided into 7 committees, tasted the 213 samples admitted to the 8th International Oenological Competition “Emozioni dal Mondo Merlot e Cabernet Insieme”.
Just as last year, the Italian Press Prize went to a wine produced in Bergamo: the Valcalepio Rosso Doc 2010 by Azienda Agricola Cascina del Bosco – Lorenzo Bonaldi srl.
The data reflect a really International competition: judges form 30 countries all over the world and samples produced in 20 different countries.
But the most important element in this competition are of course the Emotions, like Enrico Rota, President of Consorzio Tutela Valcalepio reminded in its opening speech at Contemporary Art Museum ALT in Alzano Lombardo.
“There are many way to feel emotions: you can feel the same deep emotions while receiving a caress and while tasting a good wine. We hope that having given our committees the chance to taste in such a powerful and emotional space as ALT in Alzano Lombardo is, contributed in increasing even more the emotional wage of the tastings.”
This has been confirmed by the enthusiastical opinions of the judges that had the chance to fulfill their official role surrounded by the amazing and charming art collection owned by Radici Family.
“This year we decided to celebrate Bergamo productivity at best, demonstrating that Bergamo not only produces excellent wines and food specialties but also excellent products in other fields, cement for instance. We organized the tasting committees inside the old storage of ItalCementi renewed in order to welcome the art collection of Radici Family. This, as many others, is the perfect symbol of a land of workers, a land of producers that don’t forget the importance of emotions.” added Sergio Cantoni, director of Consorzio Tutela Valcalepio and Vignaioli Bergamaschi.
The schedule of the tours has also been focused on the research of emotions and aimed at letting the foreigners judges try new experience and explore our Country.
On Thursday 18th October we brought them to visit the Working Town of Crespi d’Adda, a jewel of Bergamo region, part of the UNESCO Humanity Heritage List since December 1995.
For what concerns the Friday afternoon tours we offered them the possibility to choose between a more touristic and a more “technical” route. The “touristic” tour brought them at the discovering of the art of Bergamo, from the contemporaneity of the pieces of art at show at ALT to the precious works of art of ancient time at the Sacristies Museum in Alzano Lombardo.
The “technical” route brought them at the discovery of two wineries, members of Consorzio Tutela Valcalepio, located in Torre dè Roveri: Azienda Agricola La Rovere and Azienda Agricola Eligio Magri.
Another really emotional experience was the Gala Dinner: 140 guests dining at Restaurant Taverna Colleoni in the Upper part of Bergamo historical centre. It was a good way of celebrating the Competition and to welcome our International guests that also had the chance to admire the 100 charming chimes of the bell in Piazza Vecchia at 10 p.m.
As a conclusion of the event, on Saturday 20th October 2012 it has been organized the Conference “Communications: essential tool in selling” at the Sala Mosaico of Bergamo Chamber of Commerce. At the end of the conference the winners of the Competition have been publicly announced.
The tasting desk of the wines, which were awarded with medals, has been opened to the public under the Loggia in Piazza Vecchia on Saturday Afternoon and Sunday.
